Today I stumbled upon a recent survey conducted by Aspiring Minds on its statewise employability report. This ironically coinciding with the DOECC and RRB results that got published over last few days, created the curious gap between Education and Employability.
I have already written this article on perception Vs. reality on the Schooling system but this one is more on the Engineering Studies and on the IT/ITES employment.
The Survey that was conducted by this firm through a nationwide written test AMCAT and assessed based on the following criterias:
1) Communication Skills
2) Problem Solving
3) Programming
Based on their findings, the Employability scores were calculated and published for around 20 sttes and 1,20,000 final year Engineering students. The results were NOT pretty. Here is the quick article from
In an related but unrelated article, Mysore-based GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women focuses on soft skills to increase the employability of its students. For this, the college asked the students to take up yoga and meditation, which helped them to land good jobs during the campus placement drive.
It is heartening to see that institutes have already acknowledged this gap between Employability Vs. Education, I am still wondering why they are NOT re-orienting their curriculum as a solution to it? More on this tomorrow..
