Democracy remote controlled?

Obviously I have lifted the title from the recent hindi movie tagline, called "Rann" which was supposed to be exposing the politician-businessman-media nexus. The tagline goes as "When a voice of conscience cannot be heard & when democracy is remote controlled.. will we ever know the truth?". I thought it would be very apt to today's blog point!!

How it is relevant to today's post?

It is about Sensational Journalism or Yellow Journalism which I have covered in my earlier article on different topic.

Koodankulam Nuclear Plant in Tamilnadu, India is off late known for all the wrong reasons especially for creating political instability among the surrounding areas with Central Indian Government making lot of claims that the protesters are being influenced by the "out of country forces".

There is one side of media accusing of Central Indian Government in forcing and spoiling the place around Koodankulam by constructing a nuclear plant out there and does all the daily "paid" news items on spreading the scary stories and why we do NOT require such plant.

There is this other side of the media which is with Central Government accusing and pointing fingers and raising questions about the origin of some of the protesters and the ways of accumulating such a huge crowd pulling capabilities and there were "paid" news from these medias too.

I learnt from the latter in yesterday's casual perusal that Intelligence Bureau finally picked up and arrested a Visitor from German namely Sonntag Rainer Hermann. (Hermann from German, sounds Rhythmic, huh? see the picture below!!) and  after video taping the Agency scrutiny, reportedly to have been deported back to German. He was reported to have funded about 500 crores for the agitation that he was instrumental through different missionaries from other countries, as reported by these officials.

Now the question that the agitators asking is, if he has been found guilty, why there was so much hurry in having him deported back to his country instead of arresting him and taking him to custody? Very valid question, indeed!!

"The Central government and Atomic Energy Commission are spreading false propaganda to tarnish the image of agitators at Kudankulam," Says Udhyakumar, from Voluntary People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy, the protester group, charged.

With so much "paid" "sensational" news as these around, I am wondering what a common man's stand on these critical issues would be?

That makes me ponder over the title of this blog - "Is our democracy totally remote controlled"? What is your opinion on it?
