Index Translationum??

you might definitely be wondering on the topic of today's post : Index Translationum,

The above is the poster released by UNESCO on the eve of World Book and Copyright Day being celebrated world wide today as on 23rd April 2012.

What is the significance of this day?
This day is to celebrate the authors of different genres of the books read, written in various languages across the globe. UNESCO celebrates this annual event to promote blog, write, publishing and more importantly copyright.

Why today?
This was originally said to have been initiated to honor spanish author namely Miguel de Cervantes on his death anniversary in 1923. However, it also brought an interesting coincidence with the death anniversary of the William Shakespeare. Technically speaking, Although 23 April is often stated as the anniversary of the deaths of both William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, this is not strictly correct. Cervantes died on 22 April and was buried on 23 April according the Gregorian calendar; however, at this time England still used the Julian calendar. Whilst Shakespeare died on 23 April by the Julian calendar in use in his own country at the time, he actually died eleven days after Cervantes because of the discrepancy between the two date systems. The apparent correspondence of the two dates was a fortunate coincidence for UNESCO. [ courtesy : wikipedia]

What more?
On this very date, I have promised myself to read one book of my interest on a weekly basis with my newly acquired speed reading skills.

Let me know if this WBCD day triggers any such resolution in you...
